I live on a boat in st peter's marina in newcastle (just in case anyone is trying to google their prices) and have just got first bill back. It's obscene. It works out at 40p per unit which the internet thinks is ridiculous. I've brought this up with them and just got the reply that this is how much they pay, so this is how much I pay. They said that their contract with british gas was fixed a while back - has it EVER been 40p a unit? Does anyone know? It's a lovely marina in all other respects, but I cannot believe them on this.

Guess you have already boned up on Elec/Gas re-sale
The rule is that a 2nd party seller cannot mark up what they pay the supplier
But
They are allowed to make a charge for maintaining the distribution network to the end use,
So they are the rules, but there is nobody there to police it and even if there were, how can you get access to the bills issued by BG?
I'm in the South and my son lived on a boat for a while, that was berthed in a tidal marina. Taking advice from the other residents he quickly installed exrta storage batteries and a wind turbine generator, and later augmented these with a 2nd hand 2KW diesel generator0 -

Why not ask to see their bill if you don't believe them?
If they've nothing to hide, then I'm sure they will demonstrate how they are only passing on the costs they incur.0
