As far as I am aware, any cordless phones will work, we are with Virgin Media and have used BT and another make.

Though note if you use Caller Display most cable areas use the Bellcore standard of Caller ID and only a couple of cable areas use the standard used by BT - ETSI FSL with PR(UK).

A lot of Caller Display phones are only the ETSI standard, though more and more are becoming dual standard - usually phones made not just for the UK market.

The difference is just in the way the Caller ID is sent, plus with the BT (ETSI) version the Caller ID is sent before the ring, so the phone will show the callers name just before the phone rings, also it means when someone sends an SMS to the landline and you have an SMS phone the phone won't ring first then play the SMS tone, it knows before the ring it's an SMS so doesn't ring but just plays the SMS tone.

The Bellcore Caller ID info is sent after the first ring, so when the phone rings at first you won't see who is calling until it has rang once and then the ID is sent.

However more phones are simply set not to ring out on the first ring to overcome the Bellcore limitations.

There are some BT branded phones that work on both BT and cable lines - usually the ones manufactured by a decent company, there are some that only work on BT lines, usually the poor quality Chinese made for UK use only ones. I have and an old BT Diverse X10 that is fine on cable and the SMS works too, though as pixels have started to go on the screen I've replaced it with a Binatone E850 SMS phone I bought of eBay for a few quid, this has hands-free too, though I miss the belt-clip the BT X10 had, also the X10 you could plug in a headset / earpiece.

If you aren't interested in Caller Display (if you pester Virgin Media they will give it to you free, if you tell them with BT you get it free - I get it free) then any phone will do as long as you buy one with the hands-free you are after.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
