Hi, i need advice,,,

i gave £1000 to my ex gf few years ago,and i thought she never pay me back and suddenly she called me a week ago and asked me to give her my account number so she can pay me back. and i did gave her my account.. today she send the money and i didnt beleive she would, but when she send she called from bank said they found £20note fake in her money before they send it,,and they told her and she didnt know it was fake, anyway the money is on my account now,and she called me said its been send but,im worried if i get contcted by police? or bank close my account?? in bank the cashier told her they contact police, but they didnt ask her for her details,so im confused if it was fake why they didnt contact police in sametime in bank? or they contact later?
she is not friendly with me and treat me horrible so i didnt ask her much question. what will happen now? do they contact me instead of her?but i didnt send the money, and if they ask me her details i dont know where she lives ?

You have nothing to worry about. The money is in your account, correct? Then your ex had enough cleared funds to send you £1,000 and it's nothing to do with you if she earlier tried to pay a counterfeit £20 into her bank account.

She's presumably made thousands of payments in and out of her account. You can't point to £20 of the money in your account and say that that's the £20 from the fake note.

Besides, if the bank spotted the counterfeit then surely they didn't put that £20 in her bank account anyway.

It's incredibly unlikely that your ex has anything to worry about either. There are lots of counterfeit notes and coins in circulation. No-one is going to be arrested for trying to pay a single counterfeit note into the bank.

My brother-on-law, who just happened to be blind, paid for something with a fake £20 note. The note was confiscated with no credit given, but there was no further action.

Also, some years ago, two work colleagues of my husband went to withdraw some payday cash, from a particular branch of a big name bank and both had a fake note/notes in the money being paid, but luckily, they were spotted by the teller, so even banks can pass on fake currency. (This as over 20 years ago, so perhaps they have better checks, nowadays)

Yes, hopefully things are better now, I had similar twenty odd years ago, out with a mate drinking, gets cash out of the ATM, wanders into the next pub and gets pulled for a fake note from the sums he's just withdrawn. No repercussions but he wasn't getting his twenty quid back.

Stop worrying, if there is a problem, and I doubt that there is, then it is her problem.

Now it is just time to move on and forget about it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
