Compensation - Data Protection Act

Last year the Court of Appeal ruled that an individual could complain compensation just for distress under the Act.
In the past you had to prove damage as well.
The case was Vidall Hall vs Google & had been appealed to the Supreme Court by Google.
Google withdrew the appeal in the Summer.
So you can now claim compensation just for distress.
To claim compensation though, you must have broken on the Act's 8 principles .
The principle that most people should be interested in is
"Information must be accurate and up to date"
So if the scammers are using old information - fill your boots

Good point well made - I think there have been suggestions of claiming, say £250 or more, for a breach.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
