BARCLAYCARD PPI claim rejected

I'm not an expert but my partner used to work for this bank in their PPI team. If you want to shed some light on how the policy was sold to you, as Dunstonh mentioned spend £10 on a DSAR. This should provide a copy of the application form/credit agreement.
It might help you recall some of the sale process.0 -
Hi all I just want to say I am knew to all this I will just give a brief outline of what's happened.
Back in 2000 I opened a Barclaycard I had this for seven years I no longer had the account details but filled in the online Barclays PPI complaint form and they got back to me initially it was for more details which I gave them. two days ago I received a letter from them stating "they could not agree I was mis-sold ppi because they cant identify how the application for PPI was made so they have made the ASSUMPTION that at the point of applying they gave me all the advise needed.
This is completely untrue, I decided to do this alone and not through a claims company as advised on here but now I am wondering if I made the right decision ?
I have taken it to the ombudsman now.
I suppose my question is do I have any chance of success on my own ?
or any advise would be gratefully received
Thank you
Hi. I am not sure if this is any use but I made a complaint to Barclaycard quite a few years ago and said that the application was made by me being stopped in the train station by a representative from Barclaycard who gave me a free golf umbrella for applying and that the rep completed the application. The account was opened in the mid 1990's.
Barclaycard wrote back saying it was actually a pre-printed application form that was completed and the PPI box had been ticked and that they were not going to refund the PPI.
I went to the FOS and they wrote back saying the same but added that I could refer it to a senior Ombudsman. To be honest their reply was very generic.
I asked a senior at the FOS to look again and he wrote back saying that I did not sign up at a train station because the application had my name and address already pre populated (like it had come through my letterbox delivered by Royal Mail) and I had filled in the rest of the application.
He was more thorough in his reasoning why he was agreeing with Barclaycard saying that through "the passage of time" I may start to forget specifics about how the PPI was added. So I left it at that.
About 1 year ago, out the blue, I got a letter from Barclaycard saying they had re-opened the complaint and were paying me about £1900 even though they acknowledged that the FOS had previously agreed with them.
They just said they were re-visiting closed complaints but did not go into what aspect they were re-visiting.
Hopefully you will get the outcome you hope for. GOOD LUCK!0
