Sony TV Sound Problem

Hey everyone.
We just got a Sony Bravia KD49XD8077SU which is great...apart from the sound. We just can't get the PS4 to output in Stereo. My husband noticed it first, but he's a musician so is very attuned to the sound side of things. We've tried swapping the HDMI cable from the Sky box to the PS4, which seemed to work so we thought it might be the HDMI cable, so we bought another one, but it's still the same. We've checked all of the settings on the TV and they are the correct ones to output in stereo.
It's driving my husband crazy. We even switched the PS4 to the HDMI port that the Sky box is in and it's still the same.
Does anyone have any other suggestions of things we can try, please?
Thank you.

What else have you connected the PS4 to that DOES render a stereo output, and how was it connected?0

The "output" is coming from the PS4 so you need to check the settings on that.LadyMorticia wrote: »We've checked all of the settings on the TV and they are the correct ones to output in stereo.
What media are you using to check the stereo output, game, music etc?0 -

We've tried Game (Destiny) and a Blu-Ray. We've checked the settings on the PS4 and they're set to stereo also. We're at a loss.2019 Wins

If you need to force the PS4 System to output 2.0 channel audio on the primary output port, either because of HDMI channel misrepresentation issues, or because you simply know you are listening on 2 speakers and want to ensure the PS4 System stays in 2.0 channel mode, then do the following:
Boot up the PS4 System and access the Settings menu
Select 'Sound and Screen', 'Audio Output Settings', 'Primary Output Port'
Select 'DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL)'. Note that you should select this regardless of whether or not you are intending to use HDMI; in this case the PS4 System willoutput audio to both optical and HDMI ports simultaneously
Make sure that the first three checkboxes are NOT checked (Dolby Digital 5.1ch, DTS 5.1ch, AAC). This will force the PS4 System to only output 2.0 channel audio regardless of the HDMI configuration
Select 'OK' to apply
Select 'Audio Format (Priority)'
Check 'Linear PCM'

Pretty much this. Both devices have to be set to the same sound type. So if the PS4 sound output is set to Dolby Digital the TV needs to be set to Dolby Digital.
Much more common than you think, when the two are set the same you will go 'wow' (compared to previous).

That worked! Thank you. I have a happy husband now who isn't about to tear his hair out. Haha. x2019 Wins
