hi, i'm going to buy a dvd player but what does the 'divx' function do/allow you to do?

Divx is a compression format for films.
You can think of it as the equivalent of .mp3 but for films.
Basically you can fit a film of (near) DVD quality on a CD using Divx compression instead of it taking up an entire DVD.
A lot of clips, movies, etc that you can download are in Divx format.If freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0 -

does that mean i can burn my home movies (as divx) onto a cd as i would a 'file' and then play them back on my dvd player as if they were a dvd.
