Car Insurance - No Claims Discount Expiring

Hi,

Have just joined and need some advice please.

I have had a company car for coming up to 2 years now, so therefore have had no need to have my own personal car insurance.

It's now coming up to the point (2 Years) without insurance and as I understand it, after this period my accrued NCD expires, I have 20+ years by the way.

So what can I do?

I don't really want to go to the expense of buying a car just to insure, but at some point I will want a personal car and I don't want to have to earn my NCD again.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

David

Are you married? does you wife have a car? If so you could alternate the policy on hers so you insure it one year, she insures it the next, and keep your NCD that way.

Failing that some insurers will accept evidence of claim free years on a company car as a sort of pseudo-NCD and will give you a discount similar to that you'd get for a true NCD. You might have a bit more work shopping around than usual and you might have to make phone calls rather than just buy online, but the extra cost from losing your NCD needn't be as big as you might expect.

Assuming you're claim and accident free if you can provide evidence of both historical NCD and company car experience then a good broker should be able to negotiate a maximum NCD for you
  • HI, no not married so can't switch insurances.

Yes I am completely claim and accident free.

Will talk to some brokers to see what they can do.

    Thanks for the replies

get an old banger for a few hundred and then sell it on or scrap it. You don't have to drive it though.

  • That is what I will do, if I can't get around it. It's just space is an issue to keep a car somewhere.
