This months issue of PC Pro (Nov 2007) has a massive group test, with best buys and recommended panels, worth a read.
  • Tesco had a 19in flat on special at under £90. From what I remember it would suit your needs as I considered it good enough for other games.

I see if I can find a link

    Correction it was under a £100 - http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-1517.aspx

I've got the 22" version of this and it's amazing. Although for the extra £40 or so on top you could get the 22" one too :D
    Well worth it.

Widescreen is the future my friend - they also tend to be a bit better value now since everyone is wanting them and every company is making them. 4:3 ratio ones aren't as good value.

The PC Pro group test I mentioned earlier, tested them very thoroughly, they picked these two out:

    1. The Recommended "A" List was the BenQ FP93E S at £149 inc VAT (from www.oyyy.co.uk )

    2. The Best Value was the Mirai DML-519W100 at £110 inc VAT (from https://www.cclonline.com )

There are many panels out there to choose from, but some are very mediocre, with poor colour balance, low brightness, lack of controls, inputs and adjustments - so it pays to read up a good comparison test in my opinion.

Also, widescreen might well be the order of the day with larger panels 20"-24" as you can line up documents side by side etc, but for smaller area panels, it's not such a good buy as you don't get the advantages, IMO.

The majority of smaller screens (i.e. 17-19" - which usually run at the same resolution as each other) are found in 4:3 standard aspect rather than widescreen format too.
  • I've used both the 19" and 22" Cibox monitors and by are vastly superior than my previous 4:3 19" monitor. The colours and black are great, it's very sharp (coming with a DVI socket which most don't in that price range) and the widescreen looks and feels much better for gaming. A lot is personal preference though.
