Ok I am back from my first day, mainly paperwork and watching how things are done

First proper shift tomorrow 11:30 - 19:00, they seem like a really nice bunch of people

Oddly although it is an apprenticeship I have been told I will be paid either £7.85 or £8.32 per hour (£314 - £332.80 per week), does anyone know if the training provider or the company will make deductions from wages for the apprenticeship
Not unless you have authorised it. And it isn't any kind of arrangement I have ever heard of. But I don't deal with apprenticeships very often either. But if you do all the study in your own time, then that would suggest that you are working normally as others do and should be paid accordingly. Most apprenticeships I come across get study time and college time too.
  • Job ad said £200 per week, but what they have told me today is well above that

Yes I do all the coursework in my own time

Just a little confused about the pay as what I have been told today is upto £132 more than the job ad said

    Fantastic news Topaz!

I was just wondering how you were getting along the other day. So glad to see your post tonight.

Whilst apprenticeships can pay a very low wage, it's up the employer if they want to pay more than the minimum (Minimum apprenticeship wage only applies to 16-18 yr olds anyway, after that it's just the normal minimum wage). However, I don't believe they can deduct anything from your wage for the apprenticeship.

Do double-check with Pizza Hut that this is correct though.

(My partner is an apprenticeship assessor - but not in hospitality!)
    Mortgage - £[STRIKE]68,000 may 2014[/STRIKE] 45,680.

Its just that it sounded a little benign, so I beefed it up a little.
    Rather pompous, no?

    Well done OP.
Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked
  • @TyreLever: If my life is benign then I am sorry, but it is what it is, I really don't care if I am working in higher management or cleaning toilets with a toothbrush, its a job at the end of the day, YOU make it what you want it to be by being the best you can be at what you do

I am sorry if you have been spoon fed success, but some people have to work for it, actually all people should have to work for it, but unfortunately we have pompous idiots who were given it on a plate, or worked for it and now believe they are entitled to it now no matter how hard they work, you still need to work hard even when you are at the top if you want to stay there

Extremely well put. Somehow I doubt the individual concerned has achieved success, never mind been spoon-fed it. Probably jealous. At least you have the will to succeed.

Always easy to belittle from afar. Much more difficult to do what Topaz has done and post here consistently about his struggles and triumphs in an open and honest manner.

He's a pretty inspirational dude if you ask me. Not a shred of negativity in him and always gets up off the deck to better himself. Keep posting, it's always good to hear positivity.

Fab news ! There's nothing benign about the catering and hospitality industry. If our town centre is anything to go by, people like to eat out even if money is a bit tight, they just choose less expensive restaurants. It's hard work too, so OP should be applauded. In this day and age all work (if legal and decent!) is good work.
