I don't think Bristol comes under SW Water. We have a water meter for 2 of us in Cornwall and our water bill is now £58 per month.

South West water are purely Devon & Cornwall I think?

Hopefully your point about your metered cost for 2 of you may explain to others why the OP is absolutely correct in their understanding that a water meter is unlikely to save them anything, and may actually increase costs.

It wont with that size household, there is £76 PA in fixed charges with SWW before you even touch a drop of water.

£920.52 is enough to pay for 30% more metered water than an average 4 person household uses, that includes surface water, includes fixed costs, includes sewerage, and includes possible leaks and waste found in an average family dwelling.

An average household can save 100s with a meter, a frugal household can save 100s more.

It might be really helpful to the OP if you can post in some more details here - setting out the actual figures that would apply to them from South West Water and your source for the average use. Clearly neither the Water Company advisers nor just about everyone on this board is convinced, so some more information would be very useful.

Water meter calculators and averages are available on every water companies website, the op hasn't posted any details of how they came to this conclusion or where they live, and may never return, so there is no point speculating or asserting they can't save money - they (and just about everyone else) clearly can if they don't waste water

The OP has stated that they are in the South West.
They have also stated that they have been advised that a meter is not a good move for them.
Many other posters have also backed this opinion with first hand knowledge/living in the area.

I'm posting pertinent facts and corrections, what other people in the area or out of the area use or what they think the op's household might use is completely irrelevant guesswork

What the op uses and how they came to their conclusion is the only relevant issue, and they are not here to clarify, so all this nitpicking is a waste of time. If you put garbage into a calculator, you get garbage out. If you put averages in, you get a £200 saving out

Anyone paying close to a grand for water can save money with a water meter if they wish, same as they can save pots of money by addressing the insurance,tv, mobiles if they wish. With 44k of debt it would be stupid to ignore any such outgoings.

If you have a meter fitted, SW Water will allow you to switch back to non-metered in the first 2 years. So you have nothing to lose but you may save.
  • An awful lot of discussion about the water bill which is high due to being in the South West but nothing about the £81 per month satellite tv bill. That needs addressing more I would say. Water is a necessity, cable tv is not.
