I renovate property and generally have an empty house all the time somewhere.
Yes they are superb! They look so much like a tv from outside once its dark, you can set it to stay on for 4 or 7 hours after dusk so useful at home when we go away too.
Neighbors often tell us they know we have moved in or have someone living there because they see the tv at night.
We do also use a timer for lamps, simulator still comes on with a low wattage table lamp in the room.
Got ours from an Addi special offer £8 each, seen them for much more on Response security website.

I use one (along with a timer controlled table lamp) when I go on holiday.
From the outside, they do look like a TV is in use.0 -
Be careful where you place it, against a wall pointing slightly downwards is best, let its light reflect back into the room from the wall, if you have it pointing into the room, it'll cast shadows that make it look fake IMO.
I have the Aldi one, it has a 4 or 7 hour timer so that it's not flashing all night long (as again it would look fake if it was still flashing away at 4am every morning).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
