Do red light cameras work in two directions?

I apologise if this is the wrong thread but I thought it seemed appropriate with this section being about fines and things.
If I drive to or from university via the motorway, there's a dual carriageway getting into the city centre, and at a crossroads are some traffic lights and on one side is a camera. I've spotted the camera a few times and it faces the road I go down going TO university.
However, travelling home today, I was behind a coach for a while, and then when driving, the sun was low and shone right in my eyes, I was then in the cycle stop lane before I noticed the lights flicker from amber to red. And I panicked slightly, because the car behind me was close and I didn't want to slam on for that and also was in the cycle bit. But the minute I got to the other side, I realised that's the cross roads with the camera.
Anyway I've just been reading up on how they work, and something said it captures cars from behind, and when looking at that particular camera, it is facing northbound, which is the other way to what I was going, and there's no cameras on the side I was
So my question is, have I been caught? Or have I been lucky this time?

You would be better posting your query on pepipoo.com. We tend to specialise in private parking tickets here, not things that generate fines.
If you get an unfair private parking charge, do come back here though.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks0
