Help, no money

My partner has recently been told by the doctor that he is not allowed to drive due to him blacking out. Unfortunately, he is a HGV Driver so now cannot work until he has had some tests done. The first appointment is not until 15 November. We have never claimed benefits before but as I only earn £14,800 per annum we cannot survive on this as our rent is £650 per month alone.
He does not receive company sick pay and basically all we have is my earnings.
Can anybody help me. I have been to CAB but wasn't sure at how accurate the advice was as what she told me was basically we could claim £328.73 altogether which will not even cover the bills.
