    Hi
Please will you check that model number again for the Samsung Lightscribe writer.
The number that you have given isn't recognized on their website.

Quoted No. on invoice for computer but that may be their part ref ( computer supplier)
Computer says it is Samsung HD320KJ SCSI for both drives.

I think that's your Hard Drive - can you check again?

The SH-S183L will write to all DVD media.

I'd use -R for single write DVDs and +RW for re-writable DVDs.

https://www.svp.co.uk are the best place for DVDs.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I'm completely new to buying blank DVDs as well. I've never burnt a thing to DVD. However, I've learnt a lesson in backing up data so am going to buy some discs - what would you recommend I get? My drive is Sony DVD RW DW-G120A if that matters. I don't need Re-Writable discs, I just want to burn to them once then keep them safe somewhere in case my drive breaks again!

I am also interested in getting some discs for burning videos onto to watch on a DVD player. Any recommendations for that? Presumably a different type to the ones I want to backup data on?

Don't forget that, if you are only backing up less than 700 MB of data, you can still use the cheaper CD-R or CD-RW discs.

  • libertino, for backing up use either. (Cheapest?)

Use DVD-R for watching in a DVD player unless you have a philips player - they work better with DVD+R.

My backup stategy: Every month (if I can remember and/or be *rs*d) I ...

    1. Back up all my documents (well under 700 MB) onto two CD-RW discs and keep one at work as an "off-site" backup (in case of a fire, flood, etc.)

    2. Back up all my photographs (just over 2 GB) onto two DVD+RW discs and keep one at work as an "off-site" backup (in case of a fire, flood, etc.)
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
