Can't get photos off mobile

Hi, I could really do with some help with this.

I'm trying to send photos which are on my new moto G4 mobile to my HP laptop (windows 10).

I am getting the message 'There's nothing to import'.
It suggests unlocking phone but it's not locked.

I've just tried my Ipod and this still works ok.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • How are you trying to import them? Wifi/usb cable?

You may need to change the USB import mode btw

Plug it into the PC and wait a minute or two
Drag down the notification bar from the top and look for anything that says Camera mode.
See if you can change that to Mass Storage Device or similar (try them all)
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • Thanks Ringo. I'm using a usb cable.

How do I change usb import mode and to what?
  • Thank you so much Moto 2.

I did what you said and changed from charging mode to file tranfers and bingo - all fine now !
  • Edit - you must have posted while I was writing :) Glad it worked

Android hasn't supported Mass storage device mode for a while.

Plug in the cable, drag down the notification bar at the top. It'll say either MTP (Media device), PTP (Send Image) or Charge phone.

I tend to use MTP mode. Sometimes you may need to find a USB cable that is compatible with file transfers, as cheap cables may only charge your device.

If none of this works, you can always use Wifi transfer and an app like this - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransfer&hl=en

For future reference, depending on what version of Android you have your photos may already have been uploaded to your Google Photo account, in which case they can be downloaded from there onto your computer.
