Failed Habitual Residency Test

I am my wifes carer and have been for the past 3 years. Because of this I havent been able to work in most of this time, and I have been told that I've failed the test because I havent worked for 5 consecutive years.

I have just found out though that my father got British nationality quite some time ago (he was Irish before, I think he has dual nationality), would I be able to use this to pass the HRT this time around? Information around this seems a bit confusing and I dont have time to wait on hold on the phone for 40 minutes to find out that its a no.

Thanks in advance

Mike.
