Rolex watch purchase problem

hi rigsby
I'm interested to know why you decided to choose a Rolex watch as an investment? (I note that naedanger pointed out you'd have to keep it for years for the second hand value to exceed purchase price and even then it would probably be eroded by inflation).
Do you think it would be better than buying the equivalent in gold?0 -
I guess it depends if your jeweler can get anywhere near the price I paid for mine
And the price was?
thought you'd grab a bargain that sounded too good to be true, as others have said, gold be it coin or bar would of been a better purchase.
Enjoy your watch, if you ever get it, personally i'd snatch my money back0 -

I can understand that old and rare watches can sometimes be good investments but new and extremely common ones?0 -

If the OP really wants an investment they would be far better off sticking a few grand in S&S ISA, preferably one containing a good balance of funds.0 -
I bought a brand new Rolex in 2008, i paid £2000 for it, it's now £4150, i'm happy with that. I bought it to wear though, not as an investment.0

Are you saying the brand new Rolex you bought 8 years ago for £2000 is now worth £4150 second hand? Or do you mean the same model now has a price of £4150 brand new?
If the former, what model is it? I could invest in a few of them.0 -

although no gtee the retailer will get that price and they must have paid much less for it, making the purchase price much closer to what you paid for yours.
still a good buy of course0 -
Sorry I havent responded to the thread for a while.
To those asking why I'm buying a rolex as an investment, its basically because I intend to keep it relatively long term and if you look into it certain models, over time increase in value, usually the professional models,. Given the low interest rates, terrible stockmarket etc and the fact I can wear and enjoy the watch it seems like a great investment. In fact second hand the watch is already worth more than the purchase price for this one, helped by the exchange rates.0 -

But unless I've missed something you haven't actually got the watch yet ? Did you eventually receive it at the price agreed ?0
