Record your complaints on the cheap

When you call many companies the telephone operator will sometimes give out a list of conditions about the call. One of these is that " this call may be recorded" at this point I usually say " thank you, but the law allows me to record this call anyway, without you giving me express permission!"

I have had people telling me that only they can record the call and not me as that would be illegal. A couple of times I have been directly transferred to a supervisor who tried to explain that the message did not allow me to record the call! Once they realize how illogical their argument is they usually back down when confronted with my original complaint. I have not complained about anything important in a while but in earlier days I could usually get a reasonable discount for poor service or shoddy workmanship. (all genuine, I would never try to get something for nothing)

Thinking about it now, I may write a book, or at least have a web-page about how to complain successfully.
