TV aerial installation

Options
Hi, We need to get a new tv aerial installed and would welcome some advice please.

Does anyone know roughly how much we can expect to pay, the aerial needs to be split to 3 rooms.? Are we better off getting our own aerial or having one supplied by the installer? we are hoping to get it done as cheaply as possible.

Also if anyone can recommend anyone in the West Mids area I would be grateful.;)

We had last month 2 new aerials on the chimney taken old one down, replacement cables. 3 bedrooms have each tv point and the sitting room thats 4 in total, it cost us £220. I did get 2 quotes and both were roughly the same.

One aerial goes to back of house and in back bedroom, other aerial split into 3. We live near the main transmitter its on next hill so good signal

If you have the confidence and a bit of know how, it would be cheaper to install an indoor aerial yourself. (Argos sell them for £20) then all you need is a booster set with 3 outputs (1 for each room) a power point to plug it into and maybe a drum of coaxial cable and the appropriate ends, run the cable to the relevant rooms from the booster set. Finally set the aerial to an angle the same as the neighbours and then tweak it to get the best signal.
    Honestly it's easy.
  • Is it easy to do yourself if the sockets are already in the rooms, and the wiring is already going into the loft?

I am also looking at getting an aerial put in, but its a new house and Ive already had the sockets and wiring put in.

Does the aerial just 'plug and play' or is it not that simple?

In theory the coax cable in a house installation should each go back towards the aerial or booster box (older installations used to link 1 tv point to another , however the more points added the worse the picture)
This picture sort of shows how to do the install
The diagram below shows a typical arrangement with a modern TV distribution amplifier.

The aerial would need tweaking until you get the best signal strength, normally if you try to angle it similar to a neighbours you won't be far out with signal strength.
