Can I use a Broker to get a credit card?

Evening all,

Have been going through the MSE website for balance transfer cards, using the handy credit card eligibility calculator. I need to increase my credit for a substantial purchase and this will have to sit on a credit card for now.

Applied for my first Credit card in 8 years (Sainsburys) and got accepted as per calculator - :j, but for a comparatively weeny sum of £1500 - :( Half suspect its because I have available credit on my existing cards. I'll try to increase the limit on my existing cards and call experian too. But I still need to clear the other cards and get one more card in addition.

Failing that has anyone had any experience of obtaining a balance transfer through credit card through brokers?

Enjoy your Friday

A broker won't find you a credit card.

It sounds like you're a bit confused. What type of broker are you thinking might be able to get you a credit card? Perhaps you've mis-read something.

    A broker for a cc? um....no

If you have outstanding credit and you just got a low limit on a new CC you ain't going to get a great card with a high limit. So think before you start banging out more wasted searches.

It sounds like perhaps you have just used what was effectively a broker service, which advised you of the most likely cards to apply for, in return for an affiliate referral fee.

Oh... Do you mean Credit Card Eligibility Checkers?

i.e. Websites where you enter you details, and the website suggests which credit cards you're likely to be accepted for?

If so, there is the MSE one: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/eligibility/credit-cards/

I wonder if you've heard the term 'credit broker' and thought they may be able to arrange a credit card. They can't, that's not what the title means, I think the only type of credit card brokers are the referral services such as the eligibility calculators as eddddy above suggests.

You may be after experiences or helpful suggestions, but the fact is zx81 was correct and there's no need for you to continue looking.

If you already have cards that have been running more than 8 years your answer is in your purse or wallet. Call them and ask them for limit increases and a good deal. You should be able to secure a long interest free period for new purchases.

Not in the UK, unless you see sites like Moneysupermarket as a broker.

    Odd request.

Have a look at the blurb on credit card sites through which you apply for credit cards and they are often acting as brokers who earn a commission from the actual credit card company.

    For example Ocean Finance:
Ocean and Ocean Finance are trading names of Intelligent Lending Limited. We are the credit broker for the Ocean Card. Capital One is the lender, and they pay us for our services.
    https://www.oceanfinance.co.uk/credit-cards/

You can apply through a broker but it's the lender who approves or denies the application.
