car insurance through confused.com

I'm hoping someone can clarify this for me.
My car insurance is due for renewal in three weeks time, so I'm currently getting car insurance quotes.
The best price I've currently got is £372 with Marks and Spencers.
I've just been on the confused.com website, entered exactly the same details as for the other quotes (to get a like for like quote) and confused.com has Marks and Spencers as the cheapest insurer for me - this time though the quote was £320!
I've made sure that the cover for the two quotes I've got is the same, and it looks like it is.
How come it is over £50 cheaper if I go through confused.com? Would I be able to get the same price if I went direct to M&S and told them the quote I'd got through confused.com?

You need to be absolutely certain that it's like for like.
It's quite easy for it not to be the case as tehre are many variables.
e.g. level of cover, excess, legal insurance included?, NCD protection included? etc.
Are you sure that one of them hasn't defaulted something? How come it is over £50 cheaper if I go through confused.com?
It's possible that they are offering discounts.
It's also possible that there is a difference in cover that you haven't spotted.Would I be able to get the same price if I went direct to M&S and told them the quote I'd got through confused.com?
OFten companies will price match but why bother? Why not go for the cheapest one.
Also have you considered quidco?
I am expecting £120 cashback via quidco so that may also be worth consideration.0 -
I have a different experience through confused.com
My renewal was up at the weekend and 2 weeks ago i did a quote on confused , to my delight i got the price of £227 from Ecar which beat my 2nd best quote by over £100. So i click through to purchase and as if by magic it turned into £510 when it took me to check out on Ecar's website.
I let confused.com know and they take 5 days to give as reply , we'll look into it. My deadline has now passed and they say they dont know why this has happened and thats it.
Confused.com = misleading!
Is this illegal advertising?0 -
Go through Quidco and try Prudential, they beat my best quote from Confused.com, and I get £130 cashback.....the prices from confused.com do change when you actually click trough to the insurance site, it is not always the best option.0

I got my motor insurance with Post office through confused.com this year. Final price was about £8 more than the confused quote, but it still worked out cheaper than the other quotes I obtained.
Did you base both M&S quotes on the same payment method? As most insurers charge more for monthly direct debit than for a one off payment0
