Do ALL dimmer switches buzz ?
Just changed one - the OH was complaining about the noisy buzzing (I couldn't hear it !!) and the replacement is exactly the same !!

Do ALL dimmer switches buzz ?
No they don't. If you have something that is buzzing, the most likely cause is a transformer (or inductor) with a loose winding or lamination. Usually, these things are soaked in a resin and then baked to harden it.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Not all, but most. Almost every dimmer I have ever come across has made a buzzing noise of some sort, especially when dimmed. I can't stand the things for this reason.
Modern units designed for LED/Compact Fluorescent may be different, I've never used those.0 -
Look for a "trailing-edge" dimmer or "reverse phase dimmer", often sold as good for LED lighting.
From http://www.lyco.co.uk/advice/dimmers-trailing-edge-v-leading-edge/Trailing-edge dimmers are more sophisticated than leading-edge dimmers, and usually use a MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) or IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) switch rather than a TRIAC and coil. This benefits the user with smooth, silent dimming control, absent of any buzzing noise.0 -
The only dimmer switch we have in the house has buzzed for the whole 16 years we have lived here.SPC #36 :staradminx 8.SPC7=£751.10 SPC8=£651.04 SPC9=£843.00 SPC10=£872.76
