Error message when using Visa for online payments

Hi there,

Hoping someone may know the answer to this, as Visa, MBNA and SagePay all seem completely clueless about an error message that keeps happening when trying to use a Visa Credit Card. After clicking to confirm a payment, instead of the usual Verified by Visa page, the follow message comes up

You cannot access this page. This may be due to one of two reasons:

1. The FI you are trying to access is deactivated
2. The access to the FI is restricted for specific IP addresses, and your address is not one of them.

This happens whether I am issuing a PC, Internet Explorer, Chrome or Safari on an iPhone. It has happened on 3 entirely different (but reputable) websites including Premier Inn. Any ideas?

Many thanks

I've come across a similar issue before and it came down to browser plugins. Are you running any form of adblocker, or something like Trusteer Rapport? Utlimately its down to the integration of 3DS has been deployed by the payment gateway involved. There's numerous methods of doing this, and some integrations fall over on occasion with browser changes, or plugins added to the browser. Of course its possible that one of the 3DS services is also knackered.
  • I have a similarly annoying problem. For the past two weeks every time I try to use a Visa debit card online and get taken to VbyV I get the message 'we do not need your verification on this occasion' and the screen freezes or takes me back to the website home page thereby losing my order.

My bank assures me that VbyV have authorised the transaction but the merchant receives no notification of the transaction (I have monitored my bank account and none has gone through).

VbyV insist that it's a problem with the merchant's website - five different ones in two weeks? Statistically very unlikely. My bank has changed my VbyV password twice (but VbyV never asks for it) and suggested that I clear my cache - no good.

    Any ideas?
