No volume on BT landline phone - please help!

I have a BT Response 500 landline phone. The handset and keypad are line powered, and the answer machine/loudspeaking/recording features are mains powered from a 9.5 volt DC plugtop transformer. It has recently developed a fault. The phone rings ok, but when the handset is lifted there is no volume and I can't hear anything when someone calls, (but they can hear me) and it's also silent when the keys are pressed or when I'm trying to play messages. The volume returns only when the connector to the mains is pushed in hard into the back of the base, (it's in tight already) but when I let go, it goes silent again.

The phone is about 10 years old and it works perfectly in every other way. I like it - and at the moment I can't afford a replacement. Is there a cure for this, other than buying a new phone? I'm currently waiting for a phone call about a job that I'm hoping to get an interview for - so any helpful advice would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

It sounds like the socket needs re-soldering to the circuit board, which any electronic engineer should be able to do in minutes. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks espresso. So, unfortunately it's not a DIY job then? Anyone know how I might get hold of an electronic engineer? And cheaply? Ta!

Well it's DIY for anyone who can handle a soldering iron. You need someone who enjoys mending things! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
