Mouse in restaurant

Haven't ventured here before so bracing myself for responses!
I took some clients out to a nice restaurant for lunch today and just after the main course arrived, a mouse ran out of the kitchen and across the dining room floor! The waiters weren't at all surprised and said it was a common problem!
I didn't eat any of the rest of my meal as I felt quite sick at the thought but my guests fortunately thought it was quite funny and finished theirs (though to be fair they didn't fancy ordering a dessert!)
I complained to the restaurant afterwards but still didn't get an explanation or apology.
What would you think? Would you report to Environmental Health?

Yes. I wouldn't expect mice in restaurants.
How nice was the restaurant?0 -
Set lunch menu was £35 for two courses, without drinks, so quite nice or would have bee without mice.0

What sort of location was the restaurant in?
If it was in a town or city then a mouse could well be a sign of poor hygiene but this may not be the case if it a restaurant out in the sticks somewhere.
Many years ago I used to work in a pub and this was in a rural location. There were fields all around and the pub owners kept a wide variety of livestock and there was a large stable just a few feet from the back of the place.
Because of this it was fairly common to find wood mice in the bar and you'd occasionally see one running in to the building through an open door.0 -
Central London, so mice aren't unknown in that area of course. If there is a problem though to what extent can they be keeping their working surfaces clean enough to prepare food?0

The way I look at it is that it wouldn't do any harm to report it to the environmental health dept of the local council.
If they send someone around to do an inspection and they find nothing much wrong then that will be the end of the matter.
They may however find flagrant breaches of hygiene rules in which case a report was well deserved.0 -
