San Francisco – two Centre holiday suggestions?

Options
We are thinking of San Francisco as a holiday destination next year and OH is not keen on Las Vegas as a second centre destination! Anyone suggest anywhere else that would fit in instead?

Why not fly in to SFO and fly out of LA or San Diego? Lots of places to visit in between.

Here's some ideas if you rent a car. How many of these you could visit depends on how long you've got and how much driving you'd be happy to do.

    Yosemite National Park
    Lake Tahoe
    The California Pacific Coast Highway
    The Oregon Coast

We flew to SFO for a week, then flew to Vegas for a couple of days then drove back to SFO via Death Valley and Yosemite. Absolutely stunning!

with a bit of findangling, you could use Amtrak and have a multi stop itinerary from San Fransisco (ish) all the way down to San Diego.

Book an open jaw ticket flying into San Fran and out of San Diego.

If you are able to drive, you'll get an awful lot more out of your holiday:beer:

drive the pacific coast highway san fran to san diego, fabulous road. Watch "play misty for me" and "basic instinct" before you go - gives you an idea of the road. loads of places to stop en route.
    and remember ...
The coldest winter I ever spent was the summer I had in San Fransisco.

Absolutely, definitely hire a car. :) You;ll get much more from your hols. Beautiful scenery, amazing nature and wildlife. Give yourself time to take it easy.
We had an amazing time doing it that way and as a bonus, spent relatively little on accommodation, as it was easier to stay at motels along the way.
We went all the way to San Diego, parked the car and popped over the border into Mexico. Found a stand in Tijuana with the best handmade tacos in town.
The locals were impressed that we found the street stall and fussed over us. A completely different experience when they create the soft taco shells from scratch, against the awful bready things we eat here. Fresh beef, chopped and grilled on the spot and a range of condiments from which to choose.
Fifteen pesos each. Two a filling meal. :)

We managed to skip the long queues on return to the USA. Can't tell you how. :)

There are existing threads with suggestions. Give yourself at least three weeks to mooch around and explore.

We would just chance upon places and end up doing a nature walk or discover a bay full of Elephant seals or...

We had everything in the car with us, so we could change into suitable outfits at ease.

Partner got to do things she dreamt of, like driving down Rodeo Drive, visiting Beverley Hills and Sunset Boulevard...
With a vehicle you have a lot more freedom.
