Garage door remote control

We have a roller door for our garage, which can be opened by two mini hand controls as well as from a panel within the garage.

Both hand controls ceased to work recently; one lasted about a month longer than the other. I naturally assumed the battery no longer worked, but despite changing it, I still cannot get the hand control to lift the door.

The control has a red light which indicates when a function is working. So, for example, if the door is up, I can close it using the controller and the red light comes on.

The hand control has four functions; all but the push button for lifting the roller door work. When you push the button to ask it to raise the door, the red light does not go on and this is true on both controllers!

What has gone wrong and can this be repaired?

I wouldn't bother trying to repair it, probably cheaper to buy new. I recently did this using ImpulseTX.com. I don't work for them but the remote worked, it will learn from the old one, it was cheap enough and delivery was quick. Not sure how you will get on if your old one doesn't work but as it is only in one direction you might get away with it.

You need a working remote to program the new one.

Another thing to be aware of is that I seem to remember that older doors are or can be on a different frequency to the new ones. My door is a Cardale and the remotes can be 433Mhz or 868Mhz.

I was down to a single remote for mine and after much on-line searching i decided the only sure thing was to find someone I could speak to in person.

I was lucky, I found a garage door company in my nearest town who had replacement remotes even though the door is now fairly old.

I had connect the old and new remote together with a small three pin plug that came with the new remote. To finish the programming you press the button the old remote then the button on the new, job done.
