Rangemaster Breaking promises

I moved in March and bought with the house a Rangemaster cooker that was in poor shape and needed replacement parts fitted so both ovens would work.

I contacted Rangemaster, it was out of warranty and they said they had a company that did repairs for them called First4service and put me in touch with them

I was told the visit was £180.00 all work and parts guarantted for one year- so far so good.

They came, replaced the ffd's so the ovens would work and serviced the cooker.
Last month (Sep) one of the oven stopped working again - same fault, the ffd.
I called them up as I am under warraty the part only having been replaced a few months ago...and they said suddenly that the part was covered but NOT the labour and demanded £100 to even come out!
I complained and they said it wasn't them- it was Rangemaster's policy to charge the £100!

How is it down to me to pay when the 'in warranty', part failed- I thought?
So I contacted Rangemaster to complain. They said First4service were lying and it was not them charging £100 to come back and replace the parts.
Further more, Olga said it was stupid and she was sorry and would take the job away from them and get one of Rangemasters 'proper' engineers out right away! She said an eng would contact me soon...
Eventually after a week of emails etc. Rangemaster got back to me, agreed again that the whole thing was riddiculous and said they would make the repairs.
They said they would send the parts to me an an engineer would call to arrange a visit.

Meanwhile- the second oven has failed...
Contacted them again, no worries they said, we will fix it.

I had to do a lot of chasing as the engineer didnt call when he said he would, said he wouldnt come out until he had enough 'other jobs' in my area to make it worth his while, and eventually an envelope arrived with bits in from Rangemaster.

The engineer arrived a few days later and took a 10 seconds to look at the cooker, looked at the parts and said the parts were wrong and rangemaster were idiots! He left, I still have 2 none working ovens.

Called Rangemaster and spoke to Olga again, (head of customer services) and she said, she didnt look at the work sheet for last time but described the fault to their engineer (the one who attended) and he told her to order the wrongs parts...

She promised to get it all sorted and call me in a few hours...
She didn't call. I contacted Rangemaster and they said she was looking into it and would call me back soon.
She didnt call...
Again contacted Rangemaster who now said, they were now NOT going to fix the cooker- it was now down to First4service.

They promised Olga would ring me back and explain - she did not.

After a few days I have called first4service again, who are now saying I have to wait a week and an engineer will look at the cooker, decided if they are going to fix it, go away and may or may not order the parts free.

This has gone on weeks, I am without a single working oven £180 out of pocket and am being messed about by both Rangemaster and First4service.

Does anyone have any advice please?

  • Sounds like you didn't read any terms and conditions. The cooker was already second hand to begin with...

All you can do is keep chasing "Olga"
  • Wasn't given any terms and conditions and yes, cooker is not new but the part that failed was the one I only recentky had replaced with them and under warranty.
