When do wasps die for winter?

I don't know about damage to structural timbers in houses but wasps certainly do eat wood to make their nests. My garden chairs have been chomped by them (seen them doing it) and once I put a new Pintoys desk, i think made from rubberwood, outside on my patio for half an hour while I made a space in the room for it, only to find it had tiny dots all over it where the wasps had immediately gnawed at it! I was so annoyed as I'd just brought it home, wiped it over all ready to put in the house and it was ruined. It's still like it unfortunately.0

Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping they run out of food soon, after saying I haven't had many in the house yesterday, I have since found two big ones.0

The workers are male wasps, and before they die, they impregnate the queens.
This isn't right. The workers are all sterile females.
Towards the end of the season, the queen lays specialist queen and drone eggs - these hatch out into fertile virgin queens and fertile males. They leave the nest, mate, the males die off while the new queens find somewhere to hibernate for the winter.0 -
