VW Golf Key

Hi,

I have a VW Golf Mk 5 with 2 remote key fobs.

One of them stopped working all of a sudden - i replaced the battery but no luck.

I took it to VW, they said i need new keys and quoted £260.

One of the keys still works and the one that does not opens the car manually.

Is there a cheaper fix to this? I looked online and tried to recode it by flicking ignition whilst holding it in position in the lock and pressing sequential buttons but no luck!

If one works OK and the other just works as a manual key then I'd just leave it.

Replacing the battery in a key usually isn't enough and the key has to be re-programmed, but depending how old the car is it can be done from the car's ignition - Old car good/New car bad.

If it is knackered, there are online/ebay sellers who can repair them, if you trust them. A friend had this done for a BMW and it hasn't been nicked...yet

It's the price we pay for crime; we are all victims that have to have these over-complicated systems that cost us ££££'s.

An alternative might be some decent deterrants such that toe-rags might think car crime just isn't worth it.
