national grid said to partner you can get

cheaper quotes from other companies than national grid to move gas and electric meter from our front porch to outside so that we can put a toilet/shower in instead of just storage space. they mentioned a name they said to search was something like "effegem" in google or something but i am not sure i can find this. wonder if anyone else on here has any ideas. thanks in advance.

  • I would be interested to know about these too. I have the paperwork from National Grid and it works out at 460 or 480 just to move my gas meter from the inside to the outside, same wall.
My friends MIL has had a quote for less than £300, don't know what the company are called but have a telephone number, they have recently been and done hers. The number is 0870 3007677.
Let me know how you get on.

I have just rang the number and it turned out to be united utilities. They are the ones I already have the paperwork for and the cost is as I said before.
I have rang my friend who said she wrote the letter and sent the cheque for her MIL and it was def less than £300.
    I am totally confused now

just called United Utilities which is the company you gave me the number for and they said off hand on the phone that this would cost £418 + £61 for plumbing reconnection and this is only for our gas meter. sounds like a lot of money. how long ago did your friend have this done?
anyone have any ideas on moving the electrics. my partner is a builder so thought it would be more straightforward. any ideas appreciated. only got to move this by 2 metres approx!!

my partner has just told me a builder coudl do it for less than £100 (his own labour of course seeing as it is our own meter)!!! partner is saying that the box is owned by utilities company so can charge what they want! another case of rip off.
