Getting rid of Sky

Hi everyone

I'm hoping for some suggestions and preferably success stories; I have home phone and fibre broadband with Sky but I am sick of paying nearly £90 a month for adverts every 5 minutes. I don't actually watch any Sky channels, just mainly terrestrial ones. I would like to keep the fibre broadband and phone (free calls anytime of the day/night/weekend) but want to get rid of the Sky TV. I have been looking at Freesat as I already have a dish and 2 connections - one for the living room and one for the bedroom. Can anyone suggest the cheapest, easiest way to keep the broadband and phone but change to Freeview/Freesat or something similar?

Thanks in advance.

Cancel the TV element of your subscription.

Your existing Sky decoder will still show all free-to-air channels..
  • Sorry, I forgot to add, I would still like to be able to record/download programmes.

Look at switching ISP's. You can get large cashback payments for swtching.

Possibly look into BT and BT TV.
  • Thank you very much for the suggestion. I am happy with Sky as ISP because of their unlimited broadband (gamer) so I would prefer not to switch from them for that.

As Moneyineptitude said, cancel the TV. That's easy.

Then buy a PVR. That's also easy, and cheaper than paying Sky £10p/m to keep the recording features. Although sometimes they do offer that for free if you have their BB so you may want to ask when you phone to cancel.

You've kind of answered your own question as you don't want to leave Sky BB but don't want to keep the TV. There isn't really any other options.

Because of their lousy retention offer, I have signed with PlusNet, which works out about £7 a month cheaper (than Sky's best offer), including Anytime calls to land and mobile numbers.

Most providers do unlimited broadband now and some are removing the capped packages.
