I had a quote today to get a wall in the house plastered. I have no idea if it's reasonable but it's difficult getting tradesmen to even quote round here. Details as follows.

Wall size = 4.5m X 2.3m. The job is to block up the fireplace in the wall with thermolite blocks then plaster over, skimming the rest of the wall for a uniform finish. Work on the roof (capping the chimney etc) not included.

Price quoted £240; I'm in the Bristol area.

Is this fair?

For that price and small area, just buy a trowel, a bag of the plaster (will be enough) and do it yourself..
It's far far easier than everyone else says it is..
  • Where in the country are you?

I just had a quote of £200 for doing 3 ceilings including the hallway/stairs which is really awkward.

We had these 2 guys plaster our new rooms downstairs and their work is exceptional - we needed it to be as use one of the walls for the projector.
    Thinking critically since 1996....

I dont really want to DIY this one. We're spending a lot on doing the room up and I don't want to mess up the finish with a dodgy DIY job.

    somethingcorporate - I'm in Bristol.
  • Suggest £180-240 is reasonable then so you're in the right ballpark.

I'm in Bristol area and had a quote to re-plaster entire downstairs (2 large rooms) stairway, and fill in some cracks in outside rendering, putting a lip at the bottom of the exterior wall outside to the rear to deflect rainwater for £2K. Very reasonable given the size of walls and the amount of walls/nooks and crannies. that was Uplands Preservations (found on checkatrade). Really nice guy, and we will be instructing him once the house goes through!!

I had in my mind it's probably a half day to skim (including set up and clean up), add in the block work and materials, then i would say it's a days work at £200 per day plus materials. £240 sounds reasonable.
