Vodafone fibre issues.

Vodafone have done my head in with various issues after taking a new mobile contract and finding a locked handset for the first time in 19 years...
At the same time i chose to go with their 76MB fibre deal, i was already with Plusnet for 76MB fibre and expected the change to go mostly unnoticed.
They lost my home number which got sorted within 24 hours.
But the broadband speed is slower than with Plustnet even though they said it should be faster. I was not expecting it to be faster but not slower either.

But my downloaded files are also being corrupted??? Where do i start with corrupted downloads?
Thanks.

If you've gone from an Openreach modem + router to a combined modem/router it sounds like the modem in your new router is either generally poor or possibly faulty. Does it give any line stats?
If you can find out what login details you need you could go back to your old modem + router setup. If the new router has screwed up the DLM which sounds possible it may take a couple of days or so to recover or you may even have to request a reset which will likely flummox the CS because they won't know how to get that done or possibly even what it is.0 -
Not seen any line stats and no username/password info visible on my brief look into the router settings.
I had the openreach modem and I used a BT homehub router instead of the Plusnet one. A few devices had wifi issues with the Plusnet router.
This PC is wired to the router though so not a wifi issue.
Just downloading a steam game thats 7.5GB and there are loads of gaps in the data transfer. Didnt have that issue previously.
Its been live for over a week so should have settled by now i would have thought. Not as quick as it was on Plusnet though.
Will have a good look at the router settings, but i think its fairly locked down and very little info.

Found line stats
Actual data rate 70624 (Kbps) DOWN 20000(Kbps) UP
SNR Margin......... 5.9dB DOWN 6.4dB UP
Loop Attenuation 11.4dB DOWN 12.2dB UP
FEC Corrections 47492 DOWN 0 UP
CRC Error 740 DOWN 131 UP
Session time = 15 hours. is this the router uptime? shoule be much longer than that. Not shutdown or restarted for several days. oops no uptime 6 days.
Any clues? Where next?

Well as you were getting 73Mbps originally your sync rate should probably be 79999 (mine showed that) - certainly with your indicated sync rate you couldn't possibly get 73Mbps.
The FEC errors show that your circuit is interleaved but couldn't have been with the original 1ms ping time. Your noise margin is quite low and you are still showing CRC errors so the line isn't fully stabilised.
I wanted to get shot of the Openreach modem and to some extent regret that as the first router I tried, a Netgear D7000, dropped the connection after a few days and it stayed dropped. As I spend a lot of the summer away from home but need access to cameras and IP phone plus have stuff that upload to a websitethat wasn't acceptable and I returned it for an Asus DSL-AC68U. That remains connected but my line has gone from fastpath to interleaved and download speed has dropped by about 4Mbps - a bit of a rambling account of that - http://www.digitalham.co.uk/router-woes/ - blame the booze
There are pages that show the lVodafone ogin for ADSL so it might be well be the same for VDSL and you could try the Openreach modem and Homehub again.
Probably your first course of action should be to complain to Vodafone but I'm not at all sure how much good that would do. An awful lot of broadband CS is about as much good as a chocolate teapot if it isn't a case of you not following some instructions or other.0 -
I dont mind a small drop but 73 to 64 is not a small drop and only getting 16 up.
The Plusnet test above is not cherry picked either, it always came out around that figure when testing in the early hours. That is the best upload speed on the vodafone connection though, Mostly its around the 14 mark, download is fairly consistent at 64. Although some tests do have it around the high 40's / low 50's but that maybe the testing server and general daytime traffic overloads.
Not found any login details. Most sites i found are talking about the routers login or goes through setting up an alternate router and near the end it says enter the username and password give by your ISP. Slight issue is they dont give you one.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
ADSL setup from
https://support.vodafone.ie/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1003&PARTITION_ID=1&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&LANGUAGE=en&COUNTRY=ie&USERTYPE=1&ARTICLE_ID=2266
Username: vodafone@vodafone.ie
Password: broadband
I'm assuming you did have a username either chosen or allocated so IMO worth a try.
I'm also assuming the only thing changed at your premises was swapping out the Openreach modem + BT hub for the supplied Vodafone modem/router unit. If so then that must be the reason for the drop unless there was some change at the exchange too - I don't know if they use BTw backhaul or use some other kit. Even if ther were that shouldn't result in the lower sync with your local cabinet which you had.
If you can use the old equipment I would guess that your speeds will eventually go back to what they were before and that may be the simplest solution. If you can't get it to work then you are stuck with battling it out with CS - imo a first option woulkd be to swap out the supplied router/modem - it could be faulty as I've not see a swathe of compalints about swaps to Vodafone resulting in lower speeds and corrupted downloads.0 -
Everytime i googled vodafone and broadband it mostly comes up mobile broadband with dongles.
I did initially think the all in one unit would be a bonus but not so sure now. They said its won loads of awards, but the only reviews i could find appeared to be a direct copy of vodafones sales spiel.
Nobody actually seemed to test the router except switch the lights on and off, which is a useless gimmick.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Just to be certain - you are plugging the new Vodafone box directly into the web socket on your phone master socket and not running from an extension aren't you.
Just spotted "They lost my home number which got sorted within 24 hours." which suggests that you are on an LLU line now. I'm not sure just what that change would have involved.
The spiel on their router says it's just plug and play with no mention of any setup so probably there is no login processing and it just identifies the customer from that LLU line. This may mean that you have no alternative but to use their kit but it's still worth a try - you could probably just try plugging it in with no config but it could be it won't work whatever you do. Being forced to use ISP equipment would be a big no-no for me but no doubt doesn't trouble the majority.0 -
No extensions at all and just the short cable from the main and only socket with the wall mounted splitter to the router and a short network cable from the router to the PC.
Total distance from wall - router - PC = less than 9 feet.
Previously it would have been
wall - modem - router - PC, same distance but one extra cable.
As mentioned (i think) i did use a BT homehub router instead of the plusnet one. Plusnet router had wifi issues with some mobile devices.
Will give them a call sometime, whats the chance of it sorting itself after a couple of weeks to settle?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My personal bet is that it won't improve without intervention but it could get worse. There must have been some reason why the sync was reduced and Interleaving was applied and it doesn't sound like there is any chance it is bad internal wiring so the only thing you can do is complain. The speed hasn't dropped by a big enough percentage for you to have a lot of clout but they should be amenable to swapping the router in case it is faulty.
From what I could find it seems only their router will work so you won't be able to revert to the original kit.0
