  • If it goes insolvent, the current shareholders will lose everything even if someone comes along and buys up what's left over?

They wont get anything like the real value of a company. After all if you buy a merc it might be worth 100k, but try and sell it on straight away and youll struggle to get 40K.

The big problem is alot of NRKs business is high risk loans, this wont sell fo rvery much when sold on. Provident/ocean finance etc might be interested in this part of teh business.

Probably get a decent price for any <90% ltv loans as long as they arnt unsecure loan coupled.
  • Northern Rock shares sitting at 2.75. My tuppence worth. They have now bottomed out and will gradually start to increase with speculation of a takeover. Its anyones guess whether it will get taken over however it wouldnt surprise me if it does.

not necessarily - the NAV (net asset value) would be considered the bottom value of what the shares would be worth to ordinary shareholders after all liabilities were met.

anyone know this figure? it should be way above the current share price

I think they have further to fall. Eventually when the Dust has settled, it may be worth a punt with Bradford and Bingley, or Alliance and Leicester;)

I agree with your reasoning. I'm adding to my holdings in both. I don't however have any wish to buy NRK, too much of a gamble.
  • Well I think it will bounce around a bit now with small periods of hey this is a great buy followed by oh no sell. Either way its not going to be worth investing in until it sorts out its financing problems. More bad news could send it crashing again at any time.

I know I have caught a falling knife but paid 440p per share late in the day. Of course its a gamble but hoping for a 10% rise in the short term as the sell off today was excessive...
