Are my Walls ok???

Hi
This is probably a silly question but have tried to google it and not really found the correct answer.
We moved into our house 4 months ago the homebuyers servay said there was nothing wrong with the house, no damp, no movment etc. Great we thought.
Last night we went to put up a dart board i had tapped on the wall where i wanted to put the holes to hang it from and it was brick so drilled the first hole no problem. went to drill the 2nd hole to find further along the wall it is plasterboard!!! so i went tapping along and about 5 ft along it becomes brick again. This got me a little worried so went around upstairs tapping walls to find that our main external wall is brick for half the house then in certain places it sounds hollow like plasterboard but on the outside there are bricks.
Its not like sections are plasterboard either its like holes have been filled in or something like that because downstairs on this wall there is just a small section which is about 3 ft up from the floor sounds hollow but its only for maybe another 1ft up then it becomes brick again.
Has anyone got any ideas???
I am rather worried now. Sorry if this sounds like a silly thing to ask.
Thanks

We've got a couple of areas like that in ours, mainly where doorways have been filled in/moved.
The section you describe downstairs could be damage of some kind or could it possibly have been a serving hatch if it's in the dining room/kitchen.0 -
Have you got a fireplace, could this have been boarded up?0

Not on the external wall. We know there was one in the bedroom but on another wall because the chimmny(sp??) breast is still there. I can understand the internal walls being "patched up" its mostly the external wall i am worried about. We are a semi and its the wall that runs from the front of the house to the back.0
