Good free screen video capture program

I want to capture some streaming from my screen in full-screen. I've tried Debut which almost destroyed my soundcard and took me 2 days to rectify. I've tried VSDC Free Video Capture but it's almost useless. Is there any good free programs out there?

TIA

  • The best and simplest I've used is Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 - it's what I use at work to capture screens for training videos.

Do a little googling, Microsoft give it away for free. I've also managed to take the output and compress it using Handbrake

Many thanks for your choices. I wonder why these didn't show up in my Google searches.

You'd think with the number of people wanting to do YouTube videos there would be a better selection of open source tools, or at least good reviews of products.

It took me ages to find the Microsoft product, and it hardly ever shows up in roundups of screen capture tools. It is an 'end of life' product though, so don't expect support.

Its one of those programs that were everywhere going back a few years, but little demand.

I needed one a little while back and they all contained malware and other junk.
