Chavs in the office

Recently joined a company, and i cannot believe the amount of chavs it employs.
Before I cause uproar I don’t mean to use the word in a derogatory/offensive way just that their nature has sparked my curiosity. Given that we sometimes pass them on the street and don’t think twice, it is bemusing to be inhabited in a small place with these people.
Before I go on, I'm generally referring to chavs as white, lowly educated with an east end dialect. I'm sure there are many more variations - they even seem to be camouflaged in gentry attire until they open their mouths.
What they talk about
It’s a subject I'm genuinely bemused about. After talk of football becomes worn out and unfashionable - these people tend to open up to subjects which seem so arbitrary - shoes/Nandos/cars/tv marathons/Ibiza - just reveals how distracted their minds are so they sit on a computer desk. These folk are nice people often not thinking beyond their primary means and I’ve attempted to bring up something on current affairs to challenge their minds. But the response is a mix of blank followed by some reference to thoughtless banter/joke similar to how a fart achieves birth.
How they seem
Would say the hardcore chavs around me are permanently fluxed in a state of distraction. Any musings about life/existence do not last beyond a 5 second interval. Most of their spare time is consumed on Netflix marathons & hanging around each other probably talking about Netflix marathons. I mean at no point does the adult creature seem to provoke any intellectual curiosity (ok sometimes they look out of the office window and complain about the rain - just them looking at the sky for than 4 secs sometimes gives me an ounce of excitement that hope is not lost).
Away from the amusing parts of my observations - I wish I could ignore them! The central gripe is one about how these chavs got jobs. I mean their input can’t be much better than a half educated 11 year old but yet they find themselves into the city. As we move into the digital/techfin times - their lack of value seems more stark and underlines a vast productivity gap this country likes to endorse. It’s not only a case of skills/value – they don’t even carry a mind-set to improve or challenge themselves. Challenges or problems are normally greeted with a storm of trashy expletives before being suppressed and delegated to someone else.
When I look at my reflection in the office toilet mirror I ask – Was I once a chav?

Chav literally means Council House And Vulgar.
Perhaps learn to accept that all kinds of people work, in all kinds of jobs, and the majority hate their job but need it to pay the bills. And a lot of people watch TV marathons, go out for food (nandos isn't that bad), like cars (petrolheads come from all socioeconomic backgrounds), and Ibiza is a lovely island - there's not just the clubs, there's a lot of culture if you look for it.
Perhaps you need to broaden your own mind, instead of slating people who don't want to talk about depressing current affairs are chavs (war, natural disasters, brexit et al, which are all very thought provoking but also argument provoking) - have you explored the possibility that these people don't go to work to have those kinds of conversations and that banter and lighthearted chat about popular topics is the only thing that gets them through daily?
Perhaps they are interested, but are unsure of how to articulate their point in a way such a stuck up person with their own agenda would understand.0 -
You need to quit being so judgmental. They might engage in more intellectual conversation when they are with their friends & family, but while they are in work they are there to do their job, so maybe getting involved in anything other than what they watched on TV last night would take up too much of their time.
Anyway, as you are all in a similar job, maybe you should consider that either they are more intelligent than you think they are or you're not as intelligent as you think you are.
Don't judge a book by it's cover.0 -
Its often sensible to avoid politics in the office. Some exceptions in some roles, but generally people sensibly keep to fairly neutral topics.0

Well the fact that they have got jobs suggests they're not bona-fide chavs. East End boys made good, perhaps, but benefit-scrounging fake-Ugg-wearing chavscum? Nah!0 -
The predominant culture in offices differs a lot one to another. As my role involves going into lots of different organisations, I see it a lot.
Some places are all-round nice, some simply toxic. I've been to places where everyone seems to sit there in silence the whole day which makes for a "lovely" atmosphere.
In general the nicest places are often where you have a good cross-section of types.
I would say to the OP to give these people a chance, you never know they might surprise you. Or it might be the company has recognised it needs to mix things up a little, and is now employing a more diverse range of people, and things will slowly change.0 -
Bet the OP would moan if said co-workers preferred to sit on their behinds all day claiming benefits.Dwy galon, un dyhead,
Dwy dafod ond un iaith,
Dwy raff yn cydio’n ddolen,
Dau enaid ond un taith.0 -

They got jobs in the same place as you because their input is as valuable as yours.
I don't at all argue against your opinion that their input is that of a half educated eleven year old.0 -

But at least the OP wouldn't have to sit in the same office as the chavs.
Unless the OP worked in the jobcentre of course.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
