Garage work

Hi all

does anyone know if when a cyclinder is replaced ...do they need to take the engine out?

I had a lot of work done on my car a few weeks ago and it's been making a noise since....I went to another garage that said it could be the engine mount.... as that is wobbling a bit...so would that have been affected when they did the cylinder valve replacement?

Thanks in advance

  • I can't think of a reason why the engine would need to be removed for a valve replacement.
Normally this would just involve the cylinder head being removed with the engine in place.

If you give the specific make and model of car, others will be able to confirm if this is correct.

You should go to the garage that did the repair to give them a chance to fix it. It oculd be something like a loose exhaust/heat shield etc. It's possible that they may have loosened the engine mounts for more room to remove the cylinder head but seems unlikely. Cylinder head removal is a major operation and sometimes it calls for removing and refitting a lot of parts. It could be that something has not been tightened back correctly.

Might also be an upper mount and not the lower ones -
