MAPFRE/Travel Claims Services Ltd - Claim Excess

Hi, I'm fairly new here so apologies if I am posting in the wrong spot - I just want to get some feedback from you MDE'ers about my recent travel claim. I insured my family through travel claims services ltd. We recently missed our ferry to Jersey due to a traffic accident and had to stay for a day and night in Poole waiting for the next one.
Hotel was #170 plus another #170 for new tickets. I spent a day getting together all the documentation (including proof from the police about the accident) for the claim. This morning I received a cheque for #127, which is my claimed sum less £55 excess PER PERSON!!! Of course this was on the key points but I missed it - so just posting here to make everyone else aware. If I had just put the claim in for me rather than the family, presumably the payout would have been higher?!
I've never come across this scenario before, just wondering if it's commonplace or whether TCS are special in this regard, in which case steer clear!!!
