Do you find yourself getting sidetracked? Or maybe it's procrastinating. I have a long list of stuff which I do need to do today, but I have just spent the last hour reorganising my kitchen cupboards! They look good and I actually have more space now so have somewhere to hide all of the clutter which inevitably ends up all over the kitchen island. That's got to help the place look cleaner and tidier! Really should do a stock take and a meal plan, but it's one of my most hated jobs. Well, not the stock take as such, I just hate trying to meal plan. Once I have done it, it really takes the pressure off as I honestly can lie awake worrying about what I am going to cook.

Oh dear yes, I'm the person who sets off to do something - only for the - oooh look, shiny! - to kick in. But on the other hand, I find it hard to concentrate if there is mess - like you - the need for a lovely cupboard is the price paid for organising it lol. I am trying to curb my sleepwalking-hoarding tendencies - so I have been auditing cupboards and freezers. I'm trying to break the habit of buy-two-hoard-one; I don't care if its a bargain - I need to change my mind-set on this. And not be disturbed by being able to see the back of the fridge/an empty shelf.

Meal-planning I could never get the hang of. How can I know what I will want to eat on Thursday? I know this is central to a lot of people but I'm afraid - not for me. The nearest I can get is planning to use up/make a number of meal options and pick + mix them over a week. It doesn't help that I'm veggie, OH isn't and he can't eat cheese or tolerate a lot of fat (so I have to watch for that accumulating through the days eats for him). We do eat an enormous amount of fruit and veg - just he will have something meaty or fishy with his and I love dhal and falafel/veggie kofta - so good.

One day a member of staff got hold of anothers job list and wrote these tasks at the bottom

    Paint the carpark
    Round up a tiger
    Raise the Titanic

LMAO - 'and put a broom up your nether-region to sweep the floor while you're busy' used to be our favourite list addition at work ....

I have to admit to adding stuff to the list which I have just done. So if I empty and wash the bins, then I will put it on the list and cross it off!

    Love the list additions!

    Haha I do this too.

    My list for Today:

    [strike]Vacuum throughout.
    Laundry.
    Weeds front of the house.
    Tea.
    Sort PayPal.[/strike]
    Trim dogs nails.
Pick up stuff to put in shed.

No doubt I'll add to it as the day marches on but I tend to do my chores in short bursts, spread throughout the day.

  • I love lists, especially crossing out completed chores in a different colour (ideally red).

As someone said earlier, recognising whether you're a morning or evening person can really help with planning tasks.

Wear shoes... I know this sounds silly but I realised that wearing slippers made me slouch around, making progress a lot slower when doing jobs around the house. Wearing trainers means that I can use my steps more easily and safely, it's surprising how much more you do when you aren't hanging on to your slippers, plus they're a lot harder to kick off when you stop for a cuppa! (I've been known to stretch a 10 minute cuppa into an hour with the feet up, on MSE, like now...:o)

  • I'm definitely a morning person but I have found a glass of fruit juice round about 5pm gives me another spurt until dh gets in at 7.30pm to keep going.
