Help - Warranty Co gone Bust

Hi,

I purchased a 3 year old car from City Motors which is a Citreon main Dealership last year.

When I purchased my car I also bought the extended 3 year warranty at a cost of £699. I have just found out that City Motors have gone bust & Citreon have told me it's nothing to do with them & to contact kpmg regarding money I have lost.

Surely as a main dealership Citreon have some sort of responsibility? I was not told & it is not on my paperwork, that the warranty was not a Citreon warranty however they are saying it's with City Motors so not their problem!

Kpmg have told me there will be nothing left for the unsecured debtors so I appear to be left £700 down with no warranty.

Please help, really don't know what to do

  • May be a long shot but if it was paid for a credit card you could try that route, If cash, debit card or via a transfer then nothing can be done to sort it out if there is no money in the pot to cover you.

As above, if you paid by credit card then the card company is jointly liable (under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act) with the supplier for the terms of the warranty.

If it's any consolation it was probably money down the toilet anyway. A pound to a penny that the dealer would have rejected any claim you brought because it wasn't covered.

As others have said, if the warranty was direct with City Motors, and there is no money, then yours is lost.

Citroen themselves are rightly saying they are not involved.

ok, thanks - unfortunately I didn't pay any of it via credit card (lesson learn't)

I thought as I bought from a main dealer I would have some sort of warranty cover from Citreon but apparently not.

Even more annoying that my sister bought her car from City Ford & Ford are taking over the warranty

it's not just credit cards, if any form of credit was used you will have a claim against the credit company :)

Was it an official Ford Extended Warranty?

It probably isn't any consolation to the OP, but I'd tend to agree with you. And £699 for a warranty is a huge amount, you could just buy another car for that!

no, it was the same company that had dealership with both manufacturers so the warranty was the same.

this is also the issue, I was not told I wasn't buying an official Citreon warranty seeing as I was buying a 3 year old car from a Citreon dealership I actually thought I was. The paperwork/receipt also does not say it's through a third party

Thanks very much for the reply but it was on my debit card - any claim still?
