Might be a long shot but I'll throw this out here anyway.

I'm looking for a supplier of cheaper, compatible 29XL ink cartridges for the Epson XP-235 printer.

The various offerings that pop up on Amazon are not encouraging, with many having reviews saying the ink doesn't work with their printer, and those cartridges with really positive reviews being of the type where people got the product for cheap/free in exchange for an 'unbiased' (cough!) review.

Does anyone have any recommendations? If not for the specific type of ink cartridge, then a more general recommendation for a good online retailer that offers a (genuine) guarantee that their compatible cartridges work?

Thanks very much.

I use this company for my Epson inks. No problems on my XP-760.

  • Beaware that Epson printers built after January that take the 29 (Strawberry) cartridges had a firmware update that cancelled current version chips on compatibles.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

Thanks... I dutifully updated the printer's firmware after buying it earlier this year without this even crossing my mind at the time... it only occurred when I was reading lots of comments about supposedly compatible cartridges not working, and a few compatible cartridges being advertised as having a 'new chip'.

I wonder if there's any hacked firmware out there that would sort this out?

Our cartridges are the most up to date compatible cartridges with V3 microchips that work even in printers manufactured this year, also printers affected by the most recent firmware update.
We advise buying a full pack if you have not ordered these cartridges before and install a full set of compatibles. These cartridges can't be mixed with genuine cartridges in your printer.

  • Version 4 is currently the latest version compatible 29/29XL chip. Any versions below version 4 may not work in newly purchased printers or older printers that have the latest firmware installed. Also, as mentioned previously, you must fit a full set of compatibles when using them for the first time.

V4 compatibles are available online from prink.co.uk
  • A long-term Epson owner here always using compatible inks & now using an Epson XP432.
Epson are renowned for (craftily) updating the software on their printers in attempts to make you buy genuine Epson cartridges so first please, please turn off "automatically update firmware" in the printer's options. For an easier life.

When searching (Amazon for example) I notice that many of the negative reviews of compatible ink seem to be from users who might not be familiar with how best to install non-original cartridges but you're right, it's not easy to judge by the reviews. That said, the reviews for the brand I use have negatives too although my earlier caveat applies.

I am on my second full set purchased through Amazon of Uoopoo inks. For me they work very well, in fact so good I just ordered my third set. That said, if you are worried that your carts might not work then it's worth the extra few quid that the peace-of-mind a guarantee will provide.
