Removing paint from paintwork

I noticed over the weekend that there were splashes of white paint over the wheel arches of my car. It may have happened when i drove over wet paint on the road.
Whats the best way remove this without ruining the paintwork? I tried scrubbing it gently but without luck.
Thanks

  • You need a rag, some gloves, petrol and a LOT of pa-shunz!!
  • You could try Tar remover, you can buy this in Halfords or somewhere similar. Alternativly you could try paint restorer (like T Cut or Auto Glym Paint Restorer) but this is slightly abraisive so you'd have to be careful. I'd try the tar remover first.

if you are lucky you will be able to scratch it off with a finger nail.

If that doesn’t work you need some sort of solvent (trial and error), don’t even think about using a washing up greeny
  • Anyone recommend white spirit?

If you are worried about using a solvent not primarily intended for use on car paintwork try a bit on some paint that is hidden from view. I would suggest inside the car behind some of the boot trim.
  • if it is normal gloss or emulsion you can try a little white spirit or thinners on a cloth, if it is still soft it should come off easily without damaging the paintwork
    speed is good

That's liable to dissolve the paint that's meant to be there.

If it's "paint" off the road then I doubt that any liquid, that's safe to use on the paintwork, is gonna get it off. The stuff they put on the roads is actualy a kind of melted plastic with glass beads mixed in.
Your best bet would be trying to carefully chip it off. If this doesn't work then you might be left rubbing the area down and re-spraying...:(
