Plasterboard disposal

Hi, I've just finished some home renovation and have a small amount of plasterboard left (maybe 3-4 bin bags worth of bits and offcuts). I live in Tower Hamlets in east London and the council don't collect waste plasterboard or accept it at the recycling centre/tip - advising me I need to use a private firm. The lowest quote I can get is for £50 from a private recycling/waste disposal company.

I have no intention of fly tipping, but surely there must be a better option than £50 for three bin bags of plasterboard! Any suggestions / advice?

just bag it up in black/non-transparent bag so it doesnt sticks out &nobody can see it, go to your recycling centre and just dump it...

What i've done in the past, if you've got the space at home.
Break it up and put some in the wheelie bin each time they're due, and throw a bit of usual rubbish on top.

I have gotten rid of vast amounts of plasterboard, lime plaster, cement render etc in my normal bin. It got left one week when I took the p**s a bit and filled it right up (they took it the following week though) and ever since then I have kept it down to 1 or 2 bags in my normal brown bin as and when required.

They must have cottoned on because I started with about 30 bags of rubble out the front and this gradually disappeared! lol

Personally I would just bag it up and put it in the standard non recyclable waste bin at the local dump, I'm sure a lot worse goes in! I believe my local dumps don't say anything regarding plasterboard just proper rubble etc.

    Not hard is it?

Council wanted £30 to take a fridge freezer.

They took it away for free, week by week in the wheely bin. ;)
  • Have access to one of those big wheely bins? The huge ones I mean? Or know where one is?

    Problem solved.

I have access to numerous ones of these so I've been able to get rid of a load of stuff no problems.

Our local amenity tip has just now started charging £10 a sheet to take plaster board. They are now also charging for rubble as well. Asbestos is charged at £8 a bag. I can foresee a large increase in fly tipping in this area soonj.

Fly tipping seemd to increase here when the council insisted on a (free) permit or PAYG for inert waste. Permit gives 10 free bags, although the guys on our tip are quite flexible. It's not many if you're doing a big project
