Win 10 window icon.

Friend has just had both updates and after running an Eusing reg cleaner the windows do not popup when you click the window in bottom left hand corner. Do a restore on the cleaner and it works again. now this cleaner is quite useful normally but this stops him using it. Any ideas (apart from stop using it) how to solve the problem?

Are they using reg cleaner for any specific reason ?

There really isnt any need to be messing around with the registry unless to fix a specific problem.
If it is to remove malware remenants etc then adw cleaner would be a better option

Primarily to clear up the junk left in the registry after the anniversary update. Won't bother again if that's causing the problem, it didn't on mine.

Registry cleaners are not needed and tend to cause more problems than they could ever solve. Don't use one and don't suffer from any weird behaviour or things not working afterwards. This registry cleaner has been demonstrated to be poor and cause problems.

In Windows 98, you'd often have to hack the registry to try to stabilise the kamikaze tendencies of the OS. Registry cleaning was a bit like playing Russian roulette, but if the OS was dead anyway, you didn't have much to lose.

The NT-based OSes (Win NT, Win2k, XP onwards) are much less flaky, and automated registry cleaners are more likely to introduce problems than to resolve them.

I used a utilities tool in windows 98 or may have been 95?

The very clever software deleted tons of shortcuts to files that did not exist. Very clever until i booted into the second partition and found all my shortcuts had vanished.

Stupid software was not clever enough to know the machine was a dual booting one.

Never touched anything like it since and warn everyone away from them.
