But I think the Brexit vote was as much to do with blaming immigrants for the shortage of housing. (although its more to do with restricting supply through the world's most onerous planning system) The poll results swung in favour of Brexit after George Osborne said Brexit would lead to a fall in house prices (and a rise in interest rates)
As usual Osborne called the market wrong, but when he was Chancellor some people must have believed him.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

It's one of the handful of completely twisted lie lines that has stuck since the result.
In fact to go even deeper with it time and time again Priti Patel was on various news reports etc stating that this bus was saying a gross figure that was sent to the EU and it COULD be spent funding the NHS, not that it would, but it doesn't make a good headline stating the truth0 -
They voted to get back control of the country by restoring power to our democratically elected parliment. To stop sending £385 million a week for some bunch of unelected bureaucrats to waste on their idiotic projects. To get back control of our borders, so we decide who comes into the country. The brexiters knew exactly what they were voting for and won the referendum.
Except no-one knows what they voted for, it was too wide a question. The remainers were great believers in democracy until they lost and have been crying ever since.
We lost by a rounding error, and still don't know what's happening.
I'd rather we didn't leave the EU, but we are, and I'm keen to make the most of it, but it's been a few months now and there's still no actual plan to do anything beyond make some sound bites. I've still no idea what to do in order to take advantage of any boom or protect myself from any bust.0 -

'Lets fund our NHS instead'
not the same at all and never promises to spend £350m a week on the NHS0 -

But that was never disclosed alongside the huge adverts - people only vote on what they see. So it was either a lie or it was grossly misleading?
But the fact that it was weaseled out of by 7am the morning after implies they knew it was complete bs.0 -

Sounds a lot like a promise to me.
"I was going to spend £100 on Elton John tickets"
"Lets go to the theatre instead and have a nice dinner too"
"Good idea, lets do that"
"Uh... it was only a suggestion. I didn't really mean it".
Sure, it's weasely enough to weasel out of, but you're talking about the distinction between having a conversation with a cynical lawyer and a trusting member of the population who would do almost anything to keep the NHS (bearing in mind that some voters remember what it was like when the NHS didn't exist).
I think the question is; did the voters genuinely believe that leaving the EU would fund the NHS? And the answer to that is yes, many of them did, and voted accordingly.0 -

It will go towards funding the EU, as it will to other projects as well. What happened to the emergency budget BTW that we would of had to have?
And as I said, Priti Patel, as others, said many times exactly what it meant, but you'll keep ignoring that0 -
People don't vote according to lies printed on posters.
Far too much credit is given to Boris Johnson and his cronies.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
There was only one question, remain or leave.
That`s what everyone voted on and made their own democratic decision on.
Despite all of Cameron,Osborne and Carney`s lies and negative, frightening tactics, each individual that voted had to decide, remain or leave.
They voted and in a democracy the majority wins, end of story.
Any remainers that don`t like the result can try their luck in N. Korea.0
