Did the payer actually owe this money to you (i.e. are you his landlord), or was it meant for a completely unrelated person?
If the latter then he should tell his bank the payment was made in error. They will contact your bank, who may contact you to confirm. The money may be returned if you confirm it was a mistake.0 -

It doesn't help that banks like RBS do not allow you to delete payees. My son always has to check which of my account number he has to pay money into because he cannot delete the old one.
...a bit offtopic but I've just deleted a few payees when tidying up my NatWest account - I'm surprised that RBS isn't the same??0
