Friend of a friend accidentally paid 700 into my old account

    Did the payer actually owe this money to you (i.e. are you his landlord), or was it meant for a completely unrelated person?

    If the latter then he should tell his bank the payment was made in error. They will contact your bank, who may contact you to confirm. The money may be returned if you confirm it was a mistake.

    ...a bit offtopic but I've just deleted a few payees when tidying up my NatWest account - I'm surprised that RBS isn't the same??
