Dear Techies

I need some advice on my smart Tv and soundbar compatibility please - basically the new TV doesnt have the jacks for the connections from the soundbar - do I need a digital to analog converter? I am merely guessing after reading stuff on forums?

is ti something like this I need: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Digital-Optical-Coaxial-Toslink-Converter/dp/B0148KYD0U/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1475591957&sr=8-7&keywords=DAC+Digital+to+Analog+Converter

I am at work at the moment but will look up the details of my devices tonight and post the exact models - I would appreciate help as the sound on my smart tv is rather rubbish and tinny.

Thanks in advance...

My LG tv has both optical (TOSLINK) and the 'old' phono L&R outputs, as does my Panasonic soundbar - either will work, although optical is supposed to be better quality (I can't tell though...). These seem to be the most common connections, but if each device of yours has only one of these connections, and they're different, the converter may be the option, it's cheap enough.

Are you sure about this. What's the make/model of TV and soundbar?

And maybe the TV doesn't have Audio out on the HDMI. My parents bought a soundbar for their relatively recent TV, only to find it didn't support it directly and we needed an adapter to make it connect.

Thanks for everyone's input so far and sorry for my delayed response. I defo can't use hdmi as my Soundbar only has the Aux In (L - white and R - red) connections.
Soundbar is a Celsius Model B3368

TV is a Techwood 55AO2SB - 55 inch black smart tv

Am.not bothered about tip top sound quality, I just want to be able to use the Soundbar as it will improve the tv sound by 100% anyway.

    Thanks in advance everyone x

If the soundbar has a 3.5mm to RCA (L/R) cable then you can connect it via the headphone socket on your TV.

In fact according to https://www.amazon.co.uk/Celcus-B-3368-Soundbar-Bluetooth-Surround/dp/B00IWQOJHY it should all the cables you need.

What cables have you got with with your soundbar? According to that Amazon link I posted above you should have a 3.5mm connector on one end which you plug into the headphone socket on your TV and an RCA connection at the other end that plugs into the soundbar.

    Something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Phono-Stereo-Audio-Cable-3M/dp/B000Q6LSVS

Thanks for posting that useful pictute i think that's where the problem is because my cable only has the red and white bits....not the third black connection which would actually fit the audio headphone socket on my tv - should I just order the 1 in the picture u posted as it should kinda solve my problem? :)
